DOSSIER:
Client Objective
The branding for The Kate Building was developed to honor the history and geographic significance of a newly acquired landmark property in Kingsville, Texas. The name KATE was derived directly from the building’s cross streets — Kleberg Avenue and 8th Street — forming a distinctive and location-rooted identity (K + Eight).
The objective was to create a brand system that felt both historic and revitalized — bridging Kingsville’s architectural heritage with a modern retail experience. The identity draws inspiration from vintage downtown signage, early apothecary packaging, and hand-painted storefront typography, resulting in a timeless visual language that feels authentic to the building’s era.
At the heart of the development is The Kate Apothecary, the flagship retail concept housed within the building. Its sub-brand identity extends the primary KATE mark through heritage badges, monograms, and classic retail typography — evoking craftsmanship, wellness, and small-batch tradition.
Together, the brand transforms the building into a place-based retail destination — one that celebrates its intersection, its history, and its new life as a community landmark.
